Press release - Supply Chain Automation

Better safe than sorry – that’s the secret to successful logistics management. Westfalia treated the Interpack audience to a presentation on automatic storage and retrieval vehicles featuring master & servant technology for optimum operating safety.

Borgholzhausen, Düsseldorf, 11 March 2008 – A scenario to strike fear into the hearts of all logistics professionals: In storage systems with just a few or maybe even only one storage and retrieval vehicle (SRV), drive technology is paramount. Any technical problems that arise block the material flow of an entire system. Failed and delayed deliveries cause considerable expense and stress that could otherwise be avoided. Westfalia therefore relies on master and servant technology to run its storage and retrieval vehicles. Based on the principle of reserve capacity, drive systems are designed to provide mutual back-up – the master and servant drive. If the master fails, the servant takes over.

Master and servant technology guarantees operating safety

Westfalia is a premium supplier of automatic logistics systems. All its solutions offer optimum safety and availability. This is especially true of Westfalia System’s core product – the SRVs – designed and continually improved by a team of German engineers. “It’s better to be safe, especially when it comes to logistics. Which is why our SRV drives make consistent use of master and servant reserve technology. If the main drive fails, the reserve takes over. This means we can guarantee our customers absolute availability”, Ralf Köhne, sales manager for Westfalia Storage Systems, explains the priority status of plant safety. Master and servant technology can be applied to all types of storage in all sectors. Westfalia has realised successful projects for warehouses with pallets, containers (MiniLoads), trays or special load carriers in the printing, paper, packaging and food industries.

Logistics software Savanna.net: Batch traceability for consumer safety

In addition to operating safety, Westfalia attaches great importance to the topic of safety when it comes to other logistics solutions. Consumer safety, for instance, is a crucial consideration in the food industry. The Savanna.net software’s .quality module assumes quality and laboratory functions such as charge traceability or quarantine. Westfalia integrates these functions into customer logistics systems using sector-specific interfaces.
