Milestones in the history of the company
1971 was the starting date for the successful history of the business, which was practically set up in a garage by the two entrepreneurs Ulrich Upmeyer and Hans Kraak. This has now been characterised by continuous and long-term growth for over 35 years. In the meantime the family firm managed by its owners has a workforce of over 300 staff around the globe. Boasting more than 650 successful projects, Westfalia is a key player in the sector of automated logistics.
1971 | Westfalia WFT-Fördertechnik GmbH & Co. KG is founded by Ulrich Upmeyer in Borgholzhausen. The company's first building is based in a former dairy in the town centre.

1976 | After five successful years operating in handling technology, Westfalia decides to specialise in warehousing systems for pallets.

1979 | Westfalia builds the first automatic flow-through storage system for the brewery Herforder Brauerei.

1980 | The company positions itself as a premium supplier for warehousing logistics by offering innovation, quality and service. One of the innovations includes a fully automatic storage and retrieval vehicle with two motors.

1984 | The Satellite® warehouse system developed by Westfalia revolutionises warehousing logistics. Westfalia moves into new company premises including production on the Borgholzhausen Bahnhof industrial estate.

1986 | "Service" and "R&D" are enlarged as independent departments.

1988 | The Satellite® technology process is patented.
|
1989 | The company realigns itself in the market as Westfalia-WST-Systemtechnik. This name emphasises the company's development from a manufacturer of handling technology to a system provider.

1992 | The 50th Satellite® density storage system is commissioned. The company's first site abroad is opened with Westfalia Technologies, Inc. in York, Pennsylvania. The managing director and fellow partner in the USA is Daniel Labell, a member of the family.

1994 | Westfalia Systemtechnik AG is founded in Switzerland.

1996 | The new branch in the Netherlands is given the name Westfalia Systeemtechniek.
|
1998 | Westfalia opens a branch for Southern Germany in Freising.
|
1998 | Its participation in MACH4 Automatisierungstechnik allows Westfalia to break into new market segments in the pharmacy automation sector.

2000 | The company expands into England with Westfalia Systems Technologies Ltd. Westfalia Technologies Inc. moves into its new company premises in York, USA.

2001 | The company taps into new market segments by participating in Gesellschaft für automatische Verladesysteme (GAV) and founding Westfalia Parking-Systems GmbH & Co. KG.
Westfalia software solutions for inventory management are certified by SAP.

2002 | Westfalia Logistics Solutions Austria GmbH is founded as a new site in Vienna.

2003 | Westfalia restructures itself on the market as a medium-sized group of companies complete with a new organisation and corporate identity. The company performs takeover and inauguration of the administrative building.

2004 | Westfalia hands over "Schlesinger Platz", the first public fully automated car park, to the city of Vienna.

2006 | Westfalia Logistics Software launches the innovative logistics software Savanna.NET® based on Microsoft C#.NET Framework.

2007 | With Westfalia Middle East in Dubai, the company opens its first representative office in Asia. |
