Borgholzhausen/ Stuttgart, January 16, 2025 – “SMEs have to react strategically to a shortage of skilled workers, rising costs and fluctuating demand, while at the same time creating more on-site storage capacity to ensure the security of supply chains and production,” says Andreas Gartemann, CEO of the intralogistics automation company Westfalia Technologies GmbH & Co. KG: "For half a century, we have been creating the necessary scope for more capacity, flexibility and sustainability."
As a general contractor, system manufacturer and integrator, but above all as an equal partner for SMEs, Westfalia supplies all the necessary technologies, integrates them organically and opens up new perspectives: once again in 2025 from March 11 to 13 at LogiMAT in Stuttgart.
"Investing in automation requires trust," emphasizes Andreas Gartemann. "That's why, in addition to in-depth market and technology knowledge, we focus on sustainable, long-term partnerships." Close cooperation between decision-makers and Westfalia throughout the entire project and system life cycle, flexible, goal-oriented project management, and more than 50 years of expertise in many industries are the recipe for success in strengthening SMEs. Intralogistics with heart and expertise since the company was founded in 1971, which has been opening the next chapter with the move to the new headquarters in 2023 with modern, sustainable production.
Holistic systems instead of piecemeal solutions
As a well-networked general contractor and broad-based manufacturer, Westfalia implements complete systems with finely tuned, state-of-the-art components in the areas of storage technology, electromechanics, control and software, whose key components are manufactured, assembled, programmed in-house and installed at the customer's premises. Tailor-made, efficient and future-proof solutions for different products, load carriers and temperature zones, systems and special versions for industry-specific and special requirements - in terms of systems and software.
Every company is special. For this reason, the focus is on setting standards but making in-depth modifications to suit individual customer requirements. Westfalia's key technologies such as the Satellite® storage system were also developed with this in mind. As one of the company's technical cornerstones, it has shaped the multi-deep, compact storage system.
Satellite® storage systems reconnect rooms
The Satellite® technology developed by Westfalia in 1981 is an established benchmark for multi-deep storage. It is characterized by its durability, its efficiency for a growing number of industries, its adaptability from standard to special designs, its proven principle of compact storage, space, energy and vehicle savings as well as its high system availability.
The core strengths of Satellite® technology - such as stability, speed, high availability and maximum capacity on a minimum footprint - are combined with an unparalleled range of variants for multi-deep storage, which are precisely tailored to special load units and processes. Satellites and special rail profiles in the storage channels ensure particularly gentle storage processes at high speeds. Pallets can be used for longer and do not jam. Systems run with high availability.
Westfalia's powerful Warehouse Execution System (WES) Savanna.NET® which covers partial or complete warehouse management and material flow control of manual, semi-automated and automated warehouse areas as required, ensures on-time and error-free fulfillment. Savanna®-controlled warehouse systems enable accurate inventory management and ongoing process optimization with flexible warehouse strategies for every need and every industry.
A coherent sustainability strategy
The principle of maximum storage capacity close to production lines, which saves aisles, space, operating and maintenance costs, reduces set-up times, storage and production costs, streamlines, decouples and flexibilizes processes and increases operational reliability.
The bundling of warehouse locations and efficient warehouse management with Savanna.NET® reduce truck kilometers, returns and CO2 emissions, while intelligent control systems, modern drives, energy recovery and storage systems reduce energy consumption. The space to be cooled per storage location is also reduced. High-bay warehouses are suitable for self-supply with photovoltaics thanks to their large wall and roof surfaces.
Budget-friendly connection to the future
Westfalia makes existing storage systems future-proof, modernizes, expands and converts them step-by-step and economically in terms of systems and software. The compact single-mast SRMs enable the efficient replacement of old equipment. Consistent system support, forward-looking maintenance and spare parts planning as well as in-house production of key components, safety checks, training and education extend the system life cycle with full efficiency and reliability.
"Westfalia has further strengthened its services along the system life cycle in 2024," says Andreas Gartemann, "for example with additional services such as control cabinet cleaning, rail grinding or thermal image analysis for seamless condition monitoring. With individual maintenance plans, system monitoring, fast support, short response times and results-oriented on-site service, we provide our customers with optimum support throughout the entire system life cycle."
Such sustainably automated logistics systems help SMEs to continue to grow despite small teams and remain attractive for logistics specialists. Westfalia's understanding of SME customers, a pronounced consulting and planning phase create better warehouse systems that withstand tough long-term practical tests, are at the same time the indispensable backbone of daily goods movements and are open for the future in dynamic markets. Companies that automate with Westfalia storage systems act sustainably and economically.
